Since its initial publication in 1928, Modern Machine Shop has grown into one of the most highly-respected names in the metalworking and manufacturing industry. MMS has built a reader base of over 100,000, and reaches an audience at every level across a variety of companies nationwide. To be featured in an issue of Modern Machine Shop is a great moment for any machine shop, which is why in October of 2021, LaPorte-based Winn Machine was excited to welcome Modern Machine Shop for a tour of their facility.

Learn the Ins and Outs of 5-Axis Machining

There are many reasons why a writer from Modern Machine Shop may visit a shop—whether it be the installation of a new piece of cutting-edge equipment, to document the ways shops conquer the design and production of a complex part, or to document stories of challenges and solutions facing the (pardon the pun) modern machine shop. So, why did Modern Machine Shop visit Winn Machine? Machine shops understand that reaching a target market isn’t as simple as it used to be—even for a company that’s been around for as long as Winn Machine, the word-of-mouth approach can only take you so far, so expanding the reach of our message was crucial for developing business and building a brand.

Co-owner Damon Gasaway says, “I want Winn Machine to be a name customers can trust—so I want people to buy from Winn Machine, not from Damon.”

Winn Machine

Damon knew Winn Machine made great parts, but he wanted help getting the word out.

How could Damon and Winn Machine develop this reputation? In 2018, he decided to create a digital marketing presence. Damon had an existing relationship with Jack Wilkinson, who in the past sold him machine tools but had recently co-founded Sharp Wilkinson, a digital marketing agency in South Bend, IN.

Jack says, “We embrace the opportunity to work with machine shops. The sound of machines making chips, the smell of oil and coolant, the amazing metal parts that get produced – we love it all. That’s why we jumped at the chance to work with Damon and the team at Winn.”

What does the relationship look like today? Well, we’re happy to say that it’s been fruitful for both organizations! But to read the rest of the story and see more about how the relationship has benefited Winn Machine, be sure to keep an eye on Modern Machine Shop for more details.
